数字孪生是某个特定物理对象的虚拟模型，靠传感器数据持续同步、实时更新，用于监测、预测和决策，ISO 23247-1 将其定义为可观测制造要素的适用数字表示。它与仿真、复刻人的区别在于：仿真无实时数据，复刻人只从录制视频训练一次、不再与本人重新同步。Tavus 认为，把复刻人称作数字孪生会误导用户以为存在实时连接，并建议用 Replica 加 Personified Application Layer（PAL）来区分外观声音与对话系统。
